Plate LXXII.
468. Head, of calcareous stone. Height, io| inches. Found in the temple (Golgoi).
Male figure, with pointed beard and mustache. Curls on the forehead; the hair,
bound by a plain fillet, is rendered as if combed from the crown; in front of the fillet
it falls in short curls. The beard and the hair falling on the neck are sculptured in fine
parallel lines, which unite along the lower edge of the beard, forming conventional curls.
The mustache is indicated by a slightly raised surface, with incised lines. The eyes, eye-
brows, and lips are very carefully executed in the archaic manner. A few of the curls are
broken off; the beard is slightly damaged. Faint traces of red color on the fillet, lips, and
beard.

wreath, with leaves symmetrically arranged; over the forehead and on the beard are rows
of conventional curls designed in a large and spirited manner. The left ear is hacked and
partially broken; on the forehead an indentation, made by the digger with the pickaxe.
