679. Calcareous stone. Height, 1 foot 6\ inches. From the necropolis (Golgoi).
Upper portion of a stele, with two winged sphinxes in high relief, each resting a
paw against the base of a palmetto ornament, and seated on curved tendrils. The face of
the sphinx on the left is partly broken off, and the surface of the stone somewhat damaged.
The upper outline coincides with the line of the relief.
680. Calcareous stone. Height, 1 foot i| inches. From the necropolis (Golgoi).
Upper portion of a stele, with two winged sphinxes in high relief, recumbent and
facing outward; the heads turned to the front, and fore paws crossed. The head of the
sphinx on the right, when found, was broken off in several fragments, which have been
rejoined, with a piece of stone in the back to make the repair durable. Surface much
abraded.
