or lands planted with rice and cotton, or sowed with
corn, turneps, beans, pease, hemp, and other things

The groves are composed of all useful kinds of fruit-
trees ; such as apple, pear, cherry, mulberry, plumb, apri- -
cot, pomegranate, fig, olive, and filbert, with the tse-tse,
li-chi, long-yew, tsin-lau, and many others, peculiar to
