<Skco?zd. Without a written declaration ofbcers shall not search the interior of any building,
except by special order of the magistrate.
TAzzd. Execution of search-warrants to be reported.
ToMr^A. Representations regarding stolen property to he sent to the magistrate for bis
orders,
TY/fA. Particulars relating to the search ; what persons to be present.
XAr^A. Surreptitious introduction of articles into the house to be carefully guarded against.
Aseuez^A. Rules to be observed in searching zenanas.
AYpAifA. The person in whose house property alleged to be stolen is found, being unable to
give a good account of the same, shall be forwarded to the magistrate.
AYzz^A. Rule for the disposal of unclaimed suspicious property.
?Dz?A. All particulars regarding property so found shall be carefully transmitted to the
magistrate.
jE7eue?z?A. Rule for transmission of valuable articles of small hulk.
TVeJ/YA. Unclaimed or suspected property only shall be removed ; not to be restored with-
out magistrate's order..
TAiUceM^A. In heinous cases a list of property plundered to be atbxed in a conspicuous
place, and due notice given.
jFoM?*?ee?AA. Inquiries to be made from the persons in whose possession the property may
be found.
TY/b?e?AA. Person finding suspicious property in his own house or premises, how to
proceed.
AbT^fT^A. Unclaimed property to belong to Government. Rules for its transmission.
"Sbvf/AeeT^A. Ten per cent, of the value of stolen property to be granted to the recovering
ofbcers.
Section XVII. Duties of police-officers with regard to coiners and utterers of base coin.
Darogahs shall search houses of persons accused upon credible evidence of coining, &c. and
transmit to magistrate coins, implements, and accounts, together with the offenders.
Section XVIII. Duties of police-officers in the prevention or suppression of affrays and
riots.
C/awse AYrW Ofbcers of police to he present at fairs, festivals, &c.
<SAcc73d. On notice being given of an intended affray, ofbcers shall require zemindars to
disperse the people, on pain of conbscation of the matters in dispute.
TA:r<A. They shall endeavour to induce them to disperse, or to submit their dispute to
arbitration ; they shall proclaim aloud the consequences of a breach of the peace, and take
certain measures to mark the guilty.
UoMfVA. Darogahs shall not depute burkundauzes to defend the property of either
party.
TY/fA. Disputed land, or crops, shall be described, and boundaries sketched.
Section XIX. Duties of police-ofbcers in receiving confessions, and in the treatment of
prisoners generally.
CVaMse AYrs^. Examinations of prisoners to be taken without oath in the presence of three
or more credible witnesses. Rules in cases of voluntary confession.
Xecozzd. Compulsion, or holding out hopes or fears to induce confession, strictly prohibited;
penalty on conviction.
TAird. Special reason must be stated, if the confession be received at night, or in any other
place than the police-thannah.
ToMr^A. Darogah may hold private verbal examinations.
AY/YA. Prisoners confessing, to be kept separate.
<Sz^A. Witnesses to be carefully bound over.
SkueM^A. Thannah prisoners how to be confined.
AYY?A?A. Prisoners of atrocious character may, in the night-time only, be placed in stocks.
AYY^A. They may also he forwarded in light handcuffs.
AUz?A. A strict account shall be taken of unnecessary severity.
A7cw?^A. Rate of travelling for prisoners.
AVe^A. Head men and others shall provide for the custody of prisoners passing through
their estates or villages.
AAA^ee/z^A. What diet-money to be allowed to prisoners unable to support themselves
during the journey.
AbMr^eeHtA. Rules for their being delivered over to the proper ofbcers at the sudder
station.
