I. IT is hereby enacted, that arms, ammunition, and military stores
(with the exception of arms in the possession of individuals for private
use) shall not be exported, or otherwise taken from the territories of the
East-India Company, without a license from a public ofhcer or ofhcers for
each presidency, to be indicated by the Governments of the respective
presidencies, for the purpose of granting such licenses, and a full com-
pliance with all such rules and conditions as may be prescribed for the
guidance of such ofhcer or officers in regard to such exports by the afore-
said Governments respectively. And any arms, ammunition, or military
stores which any person shall export, or attempt to export, or take as
aforesaid, contrary to this Act, shall thereby become forfeited, on the
award of the ofhcer or ofhcers authorized as aforesaid to grant licenses, or
the collector of customs; and every person offending in the premises, con-
trary to this Act, shall be liable, on conviction before a magistrate, to a
penalty not exceeding five hundred rupees.
II. And it is hereby enacted, that any person who shall collect or keep
in one place, or within places not exceeding three miles in distance from
each other, any quantity of gunpowder exceeding hfty pounds, without a
license from such ofhcer as aforesaid, shall be liable, on conviction before
a magistrate, to a penalty not exceeding five hundred rupees; and such
gunpowder shall become forfeited on the award of the ofhcer or ofhcers
authorized to grant licenses as aforesaid, or the collector of customs.
III. And it is hereby enacted, that it shall be lawful for any of' the
Governments aforesaid to allow, at any port or ports, the exportation of
arms, ammunition, and military stores as aforesaid, without any such
license as aforesaid, as they shall deem expedient.
