THE BYZANTINE
CHURCH
SOUTH OF GYMNASIUM
THE plan only was recovered, the superstructure being
entirely destroyed. The mosaic pavement of marble
cubes was very similar in character to that in the Gym-
nasium. In front of the apse was an elaborate design (Page
187, Fig. 1) with the inscription in mosaic (shown in Fig. 2
below).

“ Alypios to the Holy Place according to his vow.”
In one of the octagonal figures of the main pavement was
the inscription (Fig. 3).
