that of the Scali, possibly dedicated to S. Paolo,
for the construction of which Maestro Paolo Drago-
mari, detto dell’ Abaco, who d. 1366, had provided
by his will. In 1434 the two artists painted the
chapel of the Scali, in the same church. These
paintings are given, by Vasari, to Giovanni del
Ponte (q.v.). Among his works G. is recorded to
have painted in 1422, for 45 flor. of gold, a pair of
wedding chests (forzieri) for Ilarione de’ Bardi,
as gifts to his daughter Costanza on her marriage
with Bartolommeo d’Ugo degli Alessandri. In
1433 he painted other “ forzieri ” for Paolo di
Giovannozzo Biliotti and for Zanobi Cortigiani,
and in the same year decorated a chapel for a
member of the Quaratesi family, surnamed “ il
Serpe.” G.’s bottega was in the pop. S. Stefano a
Ponte Vecchio.

Siena, b. 14—, d. c. 1481. P. MI. [Sienese school].
It is at. least probable that G. is the Giovanni da

Gentile da Fabriano. The date of G.’s birth is
unknown, but he was a P. in 1423, and was in-
scribed in the Sienese Guild of Painters in 1428.
G. made his first will in 1477, after which date he
married his servant, Domenica. He made a will
on Jan. 29, 1481, probably dying shortly after
without issue. G. was called del Poggio, from his
house being situate on the Poggio dei Malavolti
