brandishing a weapon of some sort with his right5. This warlike

5 The little figure has often been fancifully interpreted. Thus J. F. Vaillant Numis-
mata cerea Imperatorum, Augustarum, el Ccesarum, in coloniis, municipiis, et urbibus
iure Latio donatis, ex omni modulo percussa Parisiis 1695 ii. 145 fig. says : ' columna, in
qua Diana ut videtur Venatricis habitu, dextra extensa telum, laeva arcum ' <tenens>
(cp. Rasche Lex. Num. iii. 527). Eckhel Doctr. num. vet? iii. 511 has: 1 simulacrum
Palladis, ut videtur, columellas impositum ' (cp. Rasche Lex. Num. Suppl. ii. 720).
E. Babelon locc. citt. speaks of ' un petit genie,' which is vague. Head Hist, num.1 p. 689
