Adpiaaa has AapLo-o-qvbs). Pythodoros of Tralleis, the friend of Pompey, is mentioned
along with MrjvbSwpos, dvrip \6yios /cat dXXws creeds /cat (3apvs, exuv tt)v iepoxrvvrjv tov At6s
tov Aapiaaiov (Strab. 649). The name Adpicra seems, however, to have been assimilated
to the Carian place-names "Apwaaa, Bdpyacra, MvXaaa, HrjSa<ra, etc. (cp. Ptol. 6. 2. 13
Adpacra in Media); for Zeus AapLcrios or AapicraTos regularly appears on coins and in
inscriptions as Zeus Aapdaios. His cult, the most important of all cults at Tralleis, has
been well studied by J. O. Schaefer De love apud Cares culto Halis Saxonum 1912
pp. 455—466, to whose collection of evidence I am much indebted.

Tralleis was formerly called At'a (et. ?nag. p. 389, 55 f. cited supra p. 587 n. 2, cp. L.
Burcbner in Pauly—Wissowa.J?eal-Enc. v. 299) and was officially described as sacred to Zeus

The priest of the city, presumably the priest of Zeus AapdVtos, regularly dwelt in the
brick palace built there by the kings of Pergamon (Vitr. 2. 8. 9 Trallibus domum regibus
Attalicis factam quae ad habitandum semper datur ei qui civitatis gerit sacerdotium). He
