according to the relations that exist between the reality
and unreality of both parts of a sentence ?
2. Define the terms “Kalb” (e) and “ Tabir” (/);
which are two of the many sorts of “ Khilaf (^) Muktaza
Zahir p”
3. Without attending to both parts of a sentence to
the “Jami” (Ji) and to the words, how many sorts of
“ Istiarah” (i) are there ? Give examples.

(a) Of the different sorts of sentences used in the “ Koran” and
Hadis, there are two, named Mutlak and Mukyyad. The first is a
eentence without any condition or restriction attached to it; and the
second, a sentence with a condition or restriction attached to it.’
(V) Mufhum-ul-Mukhalif is the indirect meaning of a sentence.
(d) Majaz denotes an implied meaning. It is Akli when it may be
acceptable to the sense.
(e) Kalb means placing words not in their proper position.
(./) Tabir means the use of the past tense for the future.
(g) Khilaf Muktaza Zahir means the meaning which the addressee
assumes in opposition to that intended by the speaker at the time of
his speaking';
(A) Jami means the substance which is common to two different
things, as bravery is in a lion and a brave man.
(i) Istiarah means borrowing a word for denoting a different mean-
ing, as borrowing the word “ lion” from its original meaning for a
brave man.

(m) Mahmuz is a word one of the component letters of which is
hamza.
(n) . Sab is a “ form” (as used in Wright’s Arabic Grammar).
(0) Idgham is to join two letters so as to produce one sound.
(jt>) Lam is a letter of the alphabet (I).
(q) Hakim is that letter which has no vowel point.'
(r) Tafaul is one of the different “ forms.”
(s) liasab is one of the vowel points (otherwise termed Zahar).
Mansubat is the plural of Mansub, which is a word having the
vowel point Nasah on it.

Principles of Law.
1. State the effect of “Hikayati Eel” (1). Give an
example.
2. How many “ Asmaizuruf” (2) are there; and what
is the effect of each ?
3. What does the law ordain regarding following of
the teaching and example of a “ Sihabi ? ’ (3)
(1) Hikayati Fel means the relation of anything done.
(2) Asmaizuruf are prepositions.
(3) Sihabi means a person who said and believed in the Prophet,
and lived in the faith.

Junior, 3rd and 4th Classes

Etymology.
1. What are the peculiarities of the form “ Istifal ?”
2. State the different causes of the abbreviation of
words. '
3. How many kinds of plurals are there; and what
are the different measures of “ Jamai Qalil” (plural
comprising a number within ten) ?
