These are placed in the Intervals
of the Ribs as their Names Declare.
Their Number on each side is Twice
Eleven, equal to the Number of the
Jnterjlices in which they are lodged.
Their Originations are differently as-
signed by Anatomists, but we mall
acquiesce in the Opinion of Dr. Mujow
(after Stem) who thinks both {viz.)
Intercofiales Externi, and Interni, do
Arife from the Lower Edge of each
Superior Rib, and are inserted to the
Upper edge of each Inferior one.
These are Thin and Fleshy ; the
Fibres os the External pass from above
Obliquely downwards to the Forepart
oiOssaFubis (38): Those of the Internal, pig. mi.
descend in like manner obliquely to-
wards the Back-part or Os Sacrum (0): Fig.xriil
Their FibresDecuslating each other like
the Letter X.
