SPLENDID PAPYRUS.

I have no doubt, if I may lay claim to some expe-
rience, that the originals of all these articles,
which are represented on the outside of this
mummy, would, on opening, be found in the in-
side, including the gold ornaments and precious
stones, such as were used in those times.

In the same tomb another mummy was found,
also in a case. This body was covered from the
head to the feet with a very beautiful papyrus, in
twelve folds, containing hieroglyphics and co-
loured figures of extremely good execution. Their
colours are so fresh, that one would almost say
they had been traced only a few days previously.
The length of this papyrus is about sixty English
feet, and I believe it is the largest of any that have
yet been found. (See Cat. No. 283.)
