the Manner of Sowings Managing,
and Propagating them.

I Come now to the Flowers which adorn the Borders
of Parterres in every Seafbn, and in treating of them fliall
endeavour to draw Men off from the Errors and Whimfies of

Curiosity in the Bufinefs of Flowers runs chiefly upon tians adored '
Tulips, Anemones, Ranunculus's, Auricula's and Pinks. The th™ ^ntilh
Curious have icarce any Value for our other Flowers, which a„d their o-
tho' left varied in their Kinds, come not at all behind them in ni.om- Diod»
the Livelineis of their Colours, the Beauty of their Shape, the :c' *
Fragrancy of their Smell, or in their Duration and Agreeable-
nefs in the Furniture of our Gardens : But they are Tulips,
Anemones, &c. which require So much Care and Pains for
the Pleafure of feeing them laft twelve or fifteen Days at
moll. Could you fancy to your felf a Man of deep Thought,
always uneafy, always fearful, riling out of Bed in a frofty
Night to cover his Flowers, digging, watering' and weeding
his Borders continually, fcreening his Earth very fine, and
preparing it in a different manner for each Species, keeping a
written Memorial of the Order of his Borders, with the Names
and Draughts of every Flower, who as foon as their Bloom is
