falls gracefully round her back over the 1. shoulder. At the back of the
print a piece of tapestry with a pattern of large leaves and pomegranates,
fringed at the bottom, hangs by seven loops from a rocl which serves
as borcler to the print at the top, and is proiongecl as a single black line
rouncl the other three sides.

[281 X 191.] A good impression of anunusually artistic woodcut, well preserved on
tlie whole, but damaged and repaired in several places, and cut witliin tlie border on
tbe r. side. Tbe black line on tliis side is artificial, and indeed tbe border bas been so
lieavily retoucbed on all sides tbat it is bard to distinguisb tbe black of tbe original
printed border below tbe additions. Colours: a liglit crimson, dark crimson, golden
yellow, deep verdigris green, sepia. Tbe main outlines of tbe drapery are soft and
rounded, but minor folds are sbarp and accompanied by a little batcbing.

(1) THE VIEGIN AND CHILD, ENTHEONED.

Scbr. 1066. W.—D 58.

The Yirgin, facing slightly 1., sits on a low throne with a wide step
ancl high Gothic hack with pinnacles. She wears a crown and a long
mantle over an inner robe. Her hair is loose. She holds the Chilcl on
her r. arm and offers him an apple with her 1. hancl. Single border.

[48 x 35.] Good inrpression, sligktly cut at sides. Colours: green and yellow.
“ S.m.” bas been added by band on eitber side of the back of tbe tbrone.

(2) ST. JAMES THE GEEATEE.

Scbr. 1505. W.—D 69.

St. James walks towards the I, holding a shell in his r. hand and a
staff in his 1. He wears a pilgrim’s hat, and a long mantle over a tunic
drawn in at the waist by a girdle. He has a plain nimbus. Single border.

[52 X 34.] Colours : green and yellow. “ S.J.” bas been added by hand.

(3) ST. PAUL.

Schr. 1649. W.—D 70.

St. Paul walks towards the 1., holding a sword point downwards in his
r. hand ancl pointing with his 1. hand. His costume is similar to that of
St. James, but he is bare-headed. He has a plain nimbus.

[53 X 34.] Colours : green and yellow. “ S.P.” bas been added by band.
