ITALIC TOMB-GROUPS: NARCE 19M

15. Bronze Pendant in the Form of a Comb. Pl.
XX. M.S.1058, W. 0.061 m., H. 0.048 m. Many of
the teeth broken. This pendant was catalogued with
the objects from 23 M but does not appear in the record
photograph of that tomb, whereas it appears clearly in
the record photograph of this tomb. From the upper
edge of the ornament protrude three perforated rectan-
gles, to one of which are attached three small bronze
rings. Above the teeth of the comb are three bosses
around and between the concave surface of which run
lines of fine ornament made by pushing and at the same
time wiggling a pointed engraver’s tool.
16. Gold-Plated Disk. PI. XX. M.S.801, D. 0.012
m. The repousse ornament consists of a central boss and
three concentric circles.
17. Bronze Pin. PI.
XX. M.S.800, L. 0.195
m. Badly corroded, bro-
ken at either end. A
centimeter and a half
from the top of the pin is a
knob, which is made of
two convex circular pieces
of bronze and a disk of
bone, 0.003 m. thick.
Along the edges of the
pieces of bronze may be
seen parts of the margins
of holes where tiny brads
attached the bronze caps
to the edge of the bone
disk. Most of this edge
of the bone disk, how-
ever, was visible, and was
doubtless ornamented. The ornament of the bronze
caps is shown in Fig. 28. Below the knob is a small disk
of bone and above it the remnants of a larger disk with a
slightly pointed top.
18. Bronze Forked Pin. PI. XX. M.S.790, L.
0.218 m. Point of pin missing. One of the forked ends
was among the bronzes from Tomb 23 M but joins this
pin. These forked pieces are made of twisted wire bent
at the end to hold the first link of a chain through which
passes a second link through which passes a pair of links.
These links are similar in size to, but slightly heavier
than the links which are attached to the comb.
19. Bronze Bulla. PL XX. M.S.767, W. 0.084
m., H. 0.047 m. Pendants missing, otherwise intact.
Made from a single circular sheet of bronze, folded
double. Five pairs of matching perforations. In the
uppermost remain links of a chain from which the bulla
was suspended. Through the others probably passed
chains which carried pendant ornaments.
20. Similar Bronze Bulla. Pl. XX. M.S.768,
W. 0.059 m. Again links of the chain which served to

suspend the bulla are preserved; those from which smaller
pendant ornaments were hung are missing. Three con-
centric dotted circles were impressed before the circular
piece of bronze was folded double.
21. Circular Bronze Pendant. Pl. XX. M.S.
796, H. 0.024 m. Made from two disks of bronze con-
nected by a narrow strip which, when the disks are
opposed, becomes a loop. Three pairs of holes for
attaching chains three links of each of which remain.
Repousse ornament on either disk, consisting of dotted
diameters enclosing dotted chevrons.
22. Bronze Overlapping Bracelet. Pl. XX. M.S.
779, D. 0.095 m. Intact. Solid cast.
23. Bronze Overlapping Bracelet. Pl. XX. M.S.
779a, D. 0.084 m. Intact. Hollow. Three transverse
grooves adjacent to the ends. The decoration consists
of two incised lines along the median line of the outer
surface and of rows of incised fans along the curved edges.
24. Bronze Ring. Pl. XX. M.S.780, D. 0.033 m.
Two connected links (D. 0.011 m.) and a lighter single
link of the same size remain suspended from the ring.
25. Two Bronze Coils. Pl. XX. M.S.775a and b,
D. 0.03 m. Small breaks. Two pieces of bronze wire
are coiled together, their ends separated slightly and
then joined to form loops.
26. Three Bronze Tubular Ornaments with
Terminal Pendants. Pl. XX. M.S.787a, b, and c, L.
0.084 m. One pendant missing from a. Each tube is
enlarged at its center; above and below this swelling it is
encircled by five incised lines. There is a small ridge at
either end of the tube from the lower of which extend
three perforated lobes, from which hang three pendants.
27. Two Fragments of Bronze Ring. Pl. XIX.
M.S.777, D. 0.033 m. Inner surface flat, outer surface
bevelled. To this according to the catalogue was found
attached a miniature fibula, M.S.777a, L. 0.009 m.
28. Bronze Ornament with Ring and Pendant
Attached. PL XIX. M.S.791, Total H. 0.035 m.
The ornament consists of a band of bronze bent into loops
from the longest of which is suspended a ring from which
in turn hangs a fibula.
29. Fibula with Pendant Ornament. Pl. XIX.
M.S.781, Total H. 0.064 m. Catch-plate and pin of
fibula broken. Of the disks of amber strung on the
arch of the fibula but two remain. The pendant is in
the form of an axe with a bird opposite to the axe blade.
On either face of the blade is a dot within two concentric
circles.
30. Bronze Fibula. Pl. XIX. M.S.773a, L. 0.039
m. Pin and catch-plate and several disks missing. On
