To Societies for the promotion of art, science, or literature.
-incorporated under a charter.
-not engaged in commercial transactions.
-not dividing profits among the members, nor
appropriating the funds to pensions or to any
charitable purpose whatever.
-publishing a volume of transactions or pro-
ceedings in periods of not longer than three
years.
-whose annual subscriptions amount to £200.
at least.

Ranges of apartments to be granted, the estimated rental
of which shall not exceed £500. per annum, nor less than
£50.
Apartments of the estimated annual rent of £500. to be
granted on lease to Societies, the annual income of which,
derived from the subscriptions, contributions and dividends,
exceed £1000.
To all other Societies the estimated rent is not to exceed
one half the amount of the annual income derived from the
sources above described. Such tenure to be free of land
tax and other Government taxes; but subject to parochial
and other assessments, and to insurance. To be kept and
left in tenantable repair by the Society.
The surveyor of H. M. Commissioners of Woods and
Forests to report dilapidations once every five years, or at
the conclusion of occupation.
A certain sum, equalling two years’ annual income, to be
invested in the public funds in the name of an officer of
Government, as security for such liabilities, the interest
however, to accrue to the Society.
Occupation to cease within three months of its appearing
