The late hunter is no good judge of the,character
of meii, and he takes Bharu DiAt at his word and h'onors
him and entrusts him with power. Such men when
invested with power invariably turn oppressive^ and Bharu
t)utt is no exception to the rule. The people loudly mur-
mur, and Ksflketu, when too late, finds cut his mistake
and turns out Bharu of his office. He with his usual
effrontery and cunning goes over to the King of Kalinga,
( whose subject Kalketu had been at one time,) arouses
his jealousy at the sudden greatness of ^ Kalketu, and
brings about a war between the two Kings. K*alketu
is beaten and confined, but Chaudi will not desert her
follower. She appears in a vision to the King of Kalinga;
and the next morning Kalketu is released and sent to his
own country, and Bharu Dutt is disgraced. In due time
Kalketu dies, and with his wife goes to heaven, the son of
» Indra once more ; and his son Pushpaketu becomes
King.
