CRETAN 'GEOMETRICAL'—FLAT CIR-
CULAR BEAD-SEALS ENGRAVED ON

16. Brown steatite. Face A, man in short tunic, four
pellets on either side. Face B, upper part of archer,
eye symbol (?), wild-goat and, apparently, head of
horned sheep below. Acquired by A. E. in Kamares
village, 1894.
17. Green steatite. Face A, man, bare-limbed and
female figure in long tunic; stool and high-beaked
ewer. Face B, two wild-goats, a small quadruped
and spray. A. E., from Central Crete, 1894.
18. Greenish white steatite. Face A, horseman, im-
perfectly understood. Face B, crested Sphinx rudely
stylized. More advanced work, c. 800 B.C. Crete.
19. Pale green translucent steatite. Face A, warrior
with helmet and round shield, wearing short tunic.
Face B, seat ( ?), long-legged bird beneath it. Bought
in Athens.

20. Hemispherical bead-seal resembling red jasper but
of soft material. Rude figure of scorpion, withangular
fill-up ornament. Mycenae.
21. Green translucent steatite, perforated, resembling
