surrounded by a simple row of columns, it
was called Corinthian; but if constructed
of two orders, the upper closed with win-
dows, it was termed Egyptian, and ap-
peared, like a basilica. In either case the
area included within the peristyle was left
uncovered for the admission of light.

There were also Cyzicenous oici, plan-
ned to open towards the north, with a
view of the viridium, or conservatory: they
were made sufficiently long and broad to
admit two triclinia opposite each other,
and also commanding by windows a view
of the garden.
