Fine copy of an important Law-book. It is certainly that this work of Gratian
had the greatest influence on the formation of canon law, it was the chief authority in the universities,
so much that no other work of the same kind has been compiled. Of Gratian it is known practically
nothing. He was Camaldulensian monk of the convent of St. Felix at Bologna, where he taught canon
law, and wrote, probably in 1148, his treatice called at First “Concordantia discordantium canonum”,
but soon known under the name of the Decretum.
At beginning slightly waterstained in margins, otherwise fine clean copy. Old MS. note
on title.
See Reproduction, page 37.
