this celebrated book with the earliest mathematical and geometrical figures; with ample margins
for the diagrams.
Title and first few leaves a little damaged on margins, some wormholes, otherwise a very
fine large copy.

With num. geometr. diagrams, many quotations in Greek, some nice initials,
printer’s mark on title & last leaf. Old calf, richly blind stamped, (si. rubbed). 100.—
Slightly browned at the beginning, but a fine large copy of this rare edition. Small stamp on title.

II leaves, diagrams in the text, interesting woodcut device at end. Fine red
morocco, inside dent. 750.—
A very curious small popular arithmetic-book which is neither mentioned by Graesse and Brunet
nor by Smith, Rara Arithmetica.
The book is written in rhyme throughout and the author’s name in mentioned at
end by the following words: Gedicht un volbracht, durch Conradum I Femen gemacht, Er
get zu Roda auB und I eyn, und lest yeder man das seyn ic. I

Smith, Rare Arithmetica, p. 205. First Italian edition of this most popular
arithmetic of the XVIth cent. It combined the older science of numbers with the commer-
cial arithmetic of the Italian writers in such way as to appeal in a remarkable degree to the
teachers of the period.
Gemma Frisius was born at Dockum, in East Friesland, 1508, and died at Louvain in 1555.

Fine large copy of this extremely rare Strassburg imprint, dealing
with the measures used in different countries and towns, e. g.: Schaffhausen, Basel, Strassburg, Niirn-
berg, Franckfurt, Wien a. o. Very interesting early book on measures.
