Pachoras: The Cathedrals of Aetios, Paulos and Petros
conception created at Dongola was attractive for
Nubian church architecture, sufficiently so to be
immediately repeated at Faras and then, on
a much smaller scale, in the Pillar Church at
Dongola, situated next to the western face of
the city defenses (Godlewski 2005). Future
research will demonstrate the extent to which
the type of cathedral, like the one found at
Dongola, became common in Nubian cathedrals
of the 8th century.
