Bom at Lubaczow in 1866 — Died in Cracow in 1924
He studied first under Christian Griepenkerl at the Viennese Academy in the years 1881-1884,
next under Wladyslaw Luszczkiewicz in the Cracow School of Fine Arts, then under Alexander
Wagner and Paul Nauen at the Munich Academy, and finally (1890-1891)in the atelier of PAJ.
Dagnan -Bouveret and E Fremiet at the Academie Colarossi in Paris. After his return to Poland he
settled down in Lvov and later in Cracow, where he directed the Faculty of Decorative Painting at
the Academy of Fine Arts. He was a member of the Society of Polish Artists “Art”, the Association
of Polish Artists in Lvov, the Society of Painters for the Elevation of Religious Art, the Viennese
Secession and the “Group of Six.”
He painted genre scenes, predominantly from the life of the Hutsul highlanders and Galician
Jews, landscapes and portraits. He occupied himself with decorative painting, illustrations, graphic
arts and occasional^ scenography and sculpture.
