Bom in Cracow in 1869 — Died in Cracow in 1907
In the years 1885-1886 he followed the instructions of Florian Cynk, while in the years
1887-1895 of Wladystaw Luszczkiewicz, Izydor Jablonski and Florian Cynk in the Cracow School
of Fine Arts. In die periods 1887-1890 and 1896-1897 he studied history, history of art and
history of literature at the Jagiellonian University. From 1889 to 1890 he collaborated with Jan
Matejko while painting the polychromy of Our Lady’s Church in Cracow. In 1890 he travelled
around Europe, next (1891 -1894) he stayed in Paris, where he studied at the Academie Colarossi
under Joseph Blanc, Jacques Courtois and Auguste Girardot. In 1894 he settled in Cracow,
where since 1902 he lectured on decorative painting at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts. He was
a co-founder of the Society of Polish Artists “Art”. He acted as a dramatist, poet, reformer of the
Polish theatre, scenographer. He was also a painter and drawer, dealing additionally with
glass-painting, murals, book-illustration, artistic craftsmanship and graphics.
