Enemies' intention was to charge him in
the rear orderd the long roil to beat, as
a fignal for the line to half.—Col. Baillie
then order'd that the line mould be fornvd
to the rear, during which time Several
rounds of Artillery were exchanged be-
tween the party of the enemy that ap-
pealed in the rear, and the rear guard of
the detachmen. The line being forrri'd
a genearl fire frdm oUr Artillery was or-
der'd to fi'lence the Enemy's Artillery in
that Quarter, which was eafily cbtain'd.
Finding that the enemy's force which
appear'^ in the rear was totally ciifpers'd,
?t was thought proper to form the line in-
to their fi'rft marching order, and' to" ad-
vance; and having gain'd 600 paces, the
■ft hole front of the Europeans wasattack'd

front of the line, which was returned by
one of our field pieces then in front of
the Europeans. The Commanding Offi-

The charge made by this party being
broke the whd'le body of H vder's . Army
appear'd in the rear their Ai tillcry to the
amount of 50 pices being brought, into
their front jf the Detachments under
Monf Dally and Pu'm'arein being, polled
with the Artillery of their respective
Corps towards the flanks of our line and
Tippoo Saib's party having from the
appearance of the main body return'd
to their Guns, a General and'exceeding
hot lire of Artillery played on our line
from all Quarters, during which time
our Tumbrils were unfortunately blown
Captain Rumley witha Battalion of Sepoy
Grenadiers with orders to take or fpike ! up and our Ammunition moftly^expende
