ANASTASI VI. 189

We have then, B.C. 1322. 1st Thoth is July 20
1291 12

Go back 98 days to April 5th. This gives three
full Egyptian months, with the five epagomena, and
four days over. Therefore April 5th, was 27th
Pachons. The new moon was therefore visible on
28th Pachons, and the four days' feast would end
in Paoni.. This result is not unsatisfactory, but
the 8th year of Seti is mentioned in a later part of
the papyrus, this we suppose to be two years pre-
vious to the Exodus, and the transaction at Tah-
panes ought to be earlier still. The sixth year of
Seti would therefore be a more likely one, especially
as this would bring us to the first or second year of
the Usurper, and thus explain the accompanying
date of the year one at the back.

To find the Aramaean beginning of months, B.C.

1294:—Try April.
