My dear Professor Jastrow:
President Judson has asked me to confer
with you on the matter of Dr.Bezold's lectures in Chicago.
The question in our minds is whether we have committed our*
selves to the subject of Art in Dr.Bezold's understanding so that
we should not be able to modify the subject. It seems to me that
he would gain a larger hearing in our University if his subjects
were selected from the second group which you enumerate in your
last letter to President Judson. These more general culture sub-
jects" would appeal to our large body of students in History, and
in my judgment, would be more satisfactory than a group of sub-
jects devoted exclusively to Art.
Kindly let me know about this, and after further consulta-
tion with President Judson, I will let you know the result at once.
