THE DEPTHS
OF THE UNIVERSE
To anyone who is interested in astronomy the announcement
of a new book by Dr. George Ellery Haie, Honorary Director of the
Mount Wilson Observatory of the Carnegie Institution of Washington,
is welcome news. THE DEPTHS OF THE UNIVERSE, Dr. Haie's latest

book, is written in the same extraordinarily lucid style which made
THE NEW HEAVENS noteworthy.
The recent discoveries at Mount Wilson, which have vastly
expanded our conception of the scale of the stellar universe and
thrown new light on the evolutipn of the stars, are plainly described
and fully illustrated in THE DEPTHS OF THE UNIVERSE. Its chief Con-
tents include Adam's new method oi measuring stellar distances and
tracing the life cycle of giant and dwarf stars, Shapley's illumin-
ating studies of remote globular st'^r clusters, the recognition by
Barnard of ccsmic dust in the dark n^bulae, and the discovery by
the author and his associates of the ^irious law of the solar storms.
The book is profusely illustrated by phptographs from Mount Wilson.
A copy of this highly interest:äng book may be had from your
local bookstore or, by mailing the enclos^d card as a postal, direct
from the publishers by return mail, postpaid.
