Lear Professor ..olih

Your letter of February 17th reached me two days
ago. t,-e had already learned through the German Hmbassy in
i.ashington tha.t your health would not ormit you to undertake
the long trip to California and return at this time. Ihis
was sad news, and v/e are all exceedingly sorry, not only
that we shall not see you in California to receive in person
the Bruce Gold Medal of the Astronomien! Society of the
Pacific, and the honorary degree Doctor of Laws from the
University of California, but especially that you are not
now in the best of health. Professor Leuschner has read
your letter, and I am sendinr. it to Br. Aitken nt l,lount
Hamilton f'or him to pass around to the members of the "old
guard."

I hope you will come to California soon. Can you
not come in 1932, when the International Astronomical Union
is to hold its meeting somewhere in this countiy? Its last
meeting was held in Leiden in 1928.

l.!rs. Campbell unites v.ith me in the sending of
cordial rreetings and all good ishes to you and Frau L-olf.
