Dear Professor Wolf:-
There is a good chance that the Lick Observatory
will be able to obtain funds for the equipment of a department for the
study of variable star spectra on a fairly large scale;-- for instruments,
building, dome, salaries of corps of assistants, publication, and future
additions to or changes in minor apparatus. It would be of great assist-
ance to me if you should kindly make such response to the enclosed cir-
cular letter as your judgment would dictate to be for the best interests
of Astronomy. An early answer will greatly oblige me.
