My dear Professor Wolf:
This will express my appreciation of
your excellent Nachruf in honor of Professor
Barnard. It will gratify all of Professor Barnard';
friends throughout the world that this was written
by you, who are the best qualified to speak of his
work, and that it has been given such a conspicuous
place in the Nachrichten. I feel quite certain
that Professor See can only be pleased at having
your sketch accompany his own.
I hope that your health is greatly
improved with the arrival of Spring.
We have had cold^weather here, and
still find it necessary to have steam in our
building for the mornings and evenings.
We heard about a month ago that the
photographic plates, which you were kind enough
to send to the Russian colleagues, had reached
Petrograd;and now we learn that they have been
carried to Pulkowa and were found in excellent
condition, and that they have been distributed
for the different departments at Pulkowa and at
other observatories. You will doubtless receive
official thanks from Ivanov, for your kindness
in the matter.
I have just received a letter from'
Stratonoff, in which he says that he is going to.
move to Prague, where he is to teach in the Russian
University, which is caring for several thousand
of his compatriots.who are trying to keep up their
studies there.
With kindest regards.
Sincerely yours,
Professor Max Wolf,
