Herrn Prof. Dr. Max Wolf, (TTH*)
Sternwarte Kdnigstuhl,
Heidelberg, Germany.
My dear Friend:
Yesterday was a good day for me
because I had cards from you, and from Ktistner
and from Kayser, from Galle and from French
friends. The cards all arrived promptly and
we have no reason to think that there is any
delay in mails from Europe. We regularly
receive all the German scientific periodicals and
there is little evidence in them of the ravages of

war. In the song written in America, but at
present being used in martial music in England and
some portions of the continent, "It is a long way
to Tipperary", the writer of a letter to his
sweetheart says, "but if you don't receive it,
please to write and let me know",- so I hope you
will drop me another card in case you do or do not
receive this letter promptly. I expect that it will
not be delayed.
We shall take up at once at the University of
Chicago Press the question of the renewal of sub-
scriptions to the Astrophysical Journal of subscrioers
in Germany, Austria and Turkey, whose mail facilities
may be somewhat interfered with by their opponents.
I shall give instructions to reserve your set until
