Dear Professor M.WOLF,

I am sorry that I have not been able to

reply to your very kind letter of the 25th ult at an earlier date than
this, and trust that you will excuse the delay.

It was a very great pleasure for me to show

my appreciation in regard to planet (339) DOROTHEA , and I am endebted
to its Discoverer and to one of the computers of its orbit for so
kindly accepting and acknowledging what was sent to them through
me- I was simply a messenger and for this I am very grateful, although
the messenger appeared at a very late date . It was in the nihetibwi ,
I believe, that you named that then new planet!Dorothea,
The heart and mind dwell at times in retrospection and intro**-
spection and rejoice when the% can express their gratitude.
I felt sorry to learn of the hardships you and all at the
Observatory Konigstuhl had to endure during this severe winter ,
We too felt the cold very keenly- we had -18degrees and pipes were
frozen- but we did not lack fudl nor water nor Any of the necessities
of life. Here at By the snow has metled and ,for the last few days, the
SUN has shone radiantly , announcing SPRING. I trust that it is
milder weather on your great heights and that your trials and tribu-
lations are now at an end and that you and all under your direction
are again in good health.

to write
It was kind of you/me about the books to which planet (339)

is to contribute, I am so glad that this will give you pleasure -
and thank you for showing me that even in the midst of discomfort and
woes , the mind can rise ebovethe material conditions and think only
of acquiring knowledge and dwell in spheres serene. I trust that
the volumes selected are, or will, before long ,be, in your library
and that they will be of great service to yotqand that many many happy
years of good health are in store for you and yours to enjoy the
fruits of your labors and to continue to enrich the nobleScience of
Astronomy as you have done hitherto.

Please present my best greetings to Frau Geheimratin Wolf and

to your young and talented son Werner and accept for them and for
yourself, dear Prefessor Wolf „ my best wishes for every blessing.
