Jaucourt, Marquise de.
Wife of Arnail Francois Marquis de Jaucourt, 1757-1852, who served under
Louis XVI, was imprisoned in 1792, and released through the influence of Madame
de Stael. He served also under Napoleon and under Louis XVIII. He was a Pro-
testant.

Venus, crowned with roses, is seated on a cloud. Cupid plays with the girdle
which Venus unlooses ; Juno stands before her.

The picture itself, or the preliminary sketch, was sold for 375 fr. at the E. Vincent
sale in 1872.
