In front of an oak-tree with lopped branches,

branch hangs a drum with two drumsticks;
a club strikes the ass on his hind quarters.

The motto is from Rom. xii. 15. This medal suggests
more clearly than others of the same medallist’s that the
inscriptions were made by impressing type in the mould.

A S O is probably for Amor superat omnia (or orbem).
Bernasconi (followed by Montini) misread these letters as
A MD = 1500. The specimen seen by Bernasconi (then
in the possession of Remigio Castellani) was without an
obverse. The obverse inscription looks like an anagram.

V V is for Veronensis Villafrancorum. HERCVLES
should be HERCVL1S. The type may have been suggested
by an ancient coin of Thasos, although the imitation is not
close.
This is placed among the signed medals, although the
mere fact that it represents Pomedelli would of course not
be evidence of his authorship; but the style is patently his.

battista.
