Bolognese tradition, according to Calvi, attributes this
medal to Francia, ‘in the style of whose painted portraits
it is conceived ’ (Bode, loc. cit.). The text contains a reminis-
cence of Deut. xvi. 11 and xxiv. 20.
Musotti, a jurisconsult of Bologna, is mentioned in 1508
and 1515 (Armand).

The attribution to Francia is due to Armand, who points
out the resemblance in style to the portrait of Musotti,
from whose medal the reverse is adapted. Observe also
the treatment of the hair, in order to show the ear, as on
the testoon-model of Giovanni II Bentivoglio.
Tommaso Ruggieri of Bologna is mentioned in 1512 and
1521 (Armand). The motto of the reverse is from Vergil,
Aen., xii. 168.
