sdr primi internodii. Abductor longus pollicis mantis.—Tui^
muscle crosses the fore-edge of the radius; arising from the
edge of the ulna, about the middle of the ami. Its fleshy
belly divides into two, three, or four slips, with distinct ten-
dons, which go under the ligament of the carpus, to be in-
serted into the root of the first metacarpal bone of the thumb.
It's use is to extend the thumb.

Extensor primi intfrnodii.—Citbito-svper-phalangeus
primus pollicis. Extensor minor pollicis mantis. Extensor pol-
licis primus. Extensor secundi internodii. Extensor Secundus
pollicis.—This muscle lies close to the former, arising just be"
low it, and accompanying it under the ligament of the wrist;
it passes on to be inserted into the first phalanx of the thumb,
which it extends.

Extensor secundi internodii.— Cubito-super-phalan-
geus secundus pollicis. Extensor major pollicis mantis. Ex-
tensor pollicis secundus. Extensor tertii internodii. Extensor
tcrtiiis pollicis.-—A thick fleshy muscle, arising higher than (he
former on the ulna, and passing straight down that bone. Its
small tendon passes the ligament of the wrist in a peculiar
ring, and goes on to be inserted into the last bone of the
thumb, which it extends.

Indicator.—Extensor indicts proprius. Cubito-super-plia-
langeus primus indicis.—Arises from the ridge of the ulna, is
attached to the interosseous ligament: its tendon passes under
the annular ligament, and then joins with the indicator tendon
of the common extensor. It extends all the three joints of
the fore-finger.

Flexor Digitorum $vvLTMi%.—Perforatus.—Epitriclo-
phulangeus communis.—A large fleshy muscle, which lies be.
tween the palmaris longus, and flexor ulnaris ; it arises from
the infernal condyle of the os brachii, from the ligament of
*he elbow-joint, the coronoid process of the ulna, and t\ t up.
