The thyroid gland is often the seat of bronchfceU, which is
a morbid enlargement, either from a deposition of ad-
ventitious matter, or distention from air.

GLANDS OF-THE FAUCES.

The gland* situated under the membrane which lines this
cavity, are muciparous, and divided, from their situation
into palatine, uxulur, tonsil, lingual, laryngeal, and pharyngeal.

The tonsil glands, which are also called the almonds of
the ear, are subject to inflammation, forming the
cynanche tonsillaris—snppHration—enlargement—scir-
rkus.

GLANDS OF THE BREASTS.

The mammary, or lacteal glaiuls, are situated under the
fat of the breasts. Their excretory duct* are called Uibuli
htcliferi, and tubuli ga-actoferi; they proceed to the nipple,
in which they open.

The tubuli galaetoferi are often distended with milk, so.
as to iuduce inSuaimation of tiie breast.

Inflammation of the br? ast, either of the cellular substance
or glandular pait, is-called mastodynia, or mastitis.

GLANDS OF THE THORAX.

1. The thymus, a large gland, peculiar to the fcetus, and
which disappears soon after birth : it is situated in the ante-
rior duplicative or space of the mediastinum, under the su-
perior part of the sternum, and above the pericardium. An
excretory duct has not been as yet detected, but lymphatic
are seen going from this gland to the thoracic duct.
