Mr. Charles Conder’s Exhibition which closed
this rnonth at the Leicester Gallery contained
oil paintings, silk panels, and a few fans. A
sense of colour, beautiful and Strange, and con-
trolled by a fine imagina-
tion, was in evidence every-
where. Mons. Jacques E.
Blanche;s pictures at the
same gallery made the ex-
hibition one of singulär
attractiveness. The oppor-
tun i t y thus given of
appreciating the vitality of
M. Blanche’s art and his
many suprerae qualities as
apainter was very welcome.
Such paintings as Berenice,
Glittering No. 2, Fairy
Tales, and the portrait of
Dowager Lady Colthurst,
were exceptionally fine, as
also were many of the
painter’s flower pieces. Of
particular interest was
his portrait of Aubrey
Beardsley. There were also
exhibited at the gallery
some sketches of high ex-
cellence, both in colour
and tieatment, by Mrs.
Edmund Davis.

We reproduce some
designs from the second
Exhibition of Arts and
Crafts held in the Lyceum
Club. Following closely
011 the first Exhibition
there was, as might be ex-
pected, perhaps, not such
an inrush of fresh work,
but a high Standard is
maintained in the work
accepted for exhibition.
Mrs. Cecil Dale, Mrs.
Hadaway, Mrs. Ernestine
Mills, and Miss Wadsworth
contributed excellent
jewellery work. Designs by
Miss Dick and Miss E. C.
Wood ward also call for
mention. Good workman-

ship, as weil as design, was
in evidence in this dass of
work. One of the best things in the Exhibition
was a well-designed and executed book-binding for
the “ Rubaiyat ” of Omar Ivhayyam by Miss Alice
Pattinson (here reproduced). The book-bindings
