THE PERGOLA

Decorating the home
In matters relating to architec-
ture, furniture and interior decoration
there is a far greater percentage of people
who recognize what they want when they
see it than of those who can specify in these
matters from an abstract sense of taste or
knowledge of experience.
In architecture those who have not made
a study of the matter are wont to go to the
architect with a photograph from a maga-
zine and to say: “I want a house some-
thing like this,” or to invite the architect
to go down to Long Island or where-not to
look at a house which the prospective
builder is desirous of emulating.
In interior decoration they are a little
more at sea, but thanks to the develop-
ment of competent and thorough decorat-
ing departments in many of the large de-
partment stores, as well as in establish-
ments more exclusively devoted to the art,
there is a fund of ready and willingly fur-
nished information continually to be drawn
upon.
The show-rooms of any furniture store
will offer, at sight, ample suggestion and
graphic demonstration in the selection of
furniture, but the amateur home decorator
has hitherto found himself rudderless
when he has endeavored to acquaint him-
self with the manifold mysteries of paints,
stains and varnishes. The samples which
he sees in folders, arranged in bewildering
chromatic scales or discords, are no more
helpful than the small sample on a little
piece of wood. He holds it arm’s length,
he tries to imagine what a whole room fin-
ished in it would look like, and after being

But What You Get

is the important thing when you buy tires
For fourteen years we have been building high grade tires. From
the beginning our reputation for quality goods and for fair
dealing has been of steady growth.
Our long experience in quality tire building produced, eighteen
months ago, a tire whose strength and balance (or equal resis-
tance to wear) had not been paralleled. We had reason to
believe that tire to be as near perfection as anything made of
rubber and made by man could be.
The intervening year and a half has only strengthened our belief.
Regardless of cost, we have held absolutely to the construction
and quality then established and are confident we are making
tires that are dependable—that we have a strong, balanced con-
struction which means a uniformly satisfactory production— hat
your neighbor’s experience with Fisk Heavy Car Type tires
will be your experience.
