In C. is the first wheel, of the good religious life. All the parts
of it are inscribed, and there is much writing on the picture.
At top sits the Abbot with crosier. On L. a monk with his
hands on the wheel: he is ascending to dignity not willingly:
a like figure on R. looking away to R.: he is leaving dignity,
out of true humility. At bottom a monk sits writing Beatus
vir qui non, etc. Hie sedet in paupertate sed cum hilaritate.
All the figures are bearded and in white habits.
The drawing is bold and good : not very delicate.
Text ends : ascendere contradicat. Expl. de rota uere religionis.
Inc. prol. de rota simulationis .... . .
Post rotam uere religionis—intelligi possint.
Capitula.
Drawing of the rota simulationis .....
It is arranged like the other, but of course with different
legends.
The Abbot holds a book inscribed ‘Numquid non sum ego
abbas.’
The monk on L. ‘ ascendit per pecuniam.’ The one on R. who
looks at the wheel ‘cadit per negligentiam.’
The monk at bottom seated with head on hand ‘ iacet per
inopiam.’
Text begins : Statura rote
Text ends : de his aliquis potiora dicet. Expl. lib. de duabus
rotis.
The last leaf is blank.
