I. The original hand begins with the report of the Councils of
Winchester and Windsor (1072) as to the precedence of Can-
terbury: with signatures . . , . . . . p. 14
3 of William I follow and a 4th added in lower margin . , 15
1 of William II.
p. 16 is of cent, xv tacked to the next leaf: Copia litterarum
patencium Edwardi (Conf.), Henry I. After the first four
charters is a confusion. Bp. 19-22 contain nos. xvii-xxv of
John.
On pp. 23-24 (an inserted half leaf) are Henry I, v-vi and two
about Cornliull.
Also on 24 is i of Stephen. On 25 are vii, viii of Hemy I, ii of
Stephen, and then follows Henry II, i-ix (pp. 27, 28 in-
serted).
Henry III, i p. 30, followed by Richard I i.
Pp. 31, 32 (inserted) have Henry HI ii marked Realiter est...
viij henrici secundi and Richard I ii.
Richard I follows down to no. xvi; pp. 37, 38 inserted leaf.
John, p. 39. After p. 40 are two inserted slips : the charter on
the first has no number : that on the second is iii. John con-
tinues to no. xxxiii (and one added without number): the
last are on a slip, pp. 55, 56.
Henry III, p. 54 to no. xi (added), p. 61.
Edward I, p. 62. No. iii, p. 63 is irrotulacio placiti de
Terringe.
iv and a reference to the aduocacio eccl. de Newendene, are
added on p. 68 : pp. 69-74 have further additions, all of
Edward I in several hands.

The first is of Rob. de Turneham, confirmation to Bayham
Abbey.
Inserted slips, pp. 79-80.
These charters are numbered to Ixxx, p. 117. Additions in
many hands follow running to p. 101. Pp. 129, 130 blank.

The last number is 31, but there are many additions : a slip is
tacked on to p. 164, another follows p. 174.
The last is Absolucio fmalis a debito mercatorum Lucan (of
Lucca) 1285.
Quire 13 which follows here is in another hand. It has a good
deal of curious pen-ornament. It contains copies of 90
charters etc., mostly royal, from William I to John. Some
have already been given: some are in English and have been
printed by Birch : see below.
On p. 225 is added the beginning of an Inquisicio.
