Astrological Illustrations of Florian Psalter
(The Problem of Individuality within Serial
Production)
The representations in the margins of the fist part of the Florian Psalter (to 60 v), the
origin of which is connected with the person of Queen Hedwig Angevin, defined till now
by the general term drôlerie, present different astrological images 1. They are signs of
zodiac and constellations as well as paranatellonta or the guiding stars and thus con-
stellations or their parts which accompany three decanates of the sign.
Identification of these representations was possible on the grounds of the Greek
(Arat, Ptolemy, Teukros, Antiochos), Arabian (Albumasar) and mediaeval (Michael
Scot) astrological treatises, described scientifically mainly by A. Bouche-Leclerque,
F. Boll and W. Gundel2. The images of the astrological representations were collected

pp. 214-246). There are only occasional references to the occurrence of the astrological representations
