Pyrrhichius, consisss of two short syllables.
Examples: Deus, given, cannot 3 hillock, run-
ning.
2. Spondeus, consists of two long syllables:
omnes, poffefs, forewarn, mankind, fometime.
3. Iambus, composed of a short and a longs
pios, intent, degree, appear, confent, repent, de-
mand, report, fufpeft, affront, event.
4. Troch.rus, or Choreus , a long and short
fervat, whereby , after, legal, meafure, burden,
holy , lofty.
5. Tribrachys, three short: melius, properly.
6. Molossus, three long: deledlant.
7. ANAP.ESTUS, two short and a long: ani-
mas, condefcend, apprehend, overheard, ap-
quiefce, immature, overcharge, ferenade, oppor-
tune.
8. Dactylus, a long and two short: car-
mina, evident, excellence, eftlmale , wonder-
ful, altitude, burdened, minifler, tenement.
