Schußwunde des Gehirns.
Das Präpara! zeigl die Schnittfläche der oberen
Hälfte des in horizontaler Richtung durchtrennten Ge-
hirns. Man sieht einen, das Stirnhirn in schräger
Richtung von rechts nach links durchsetzenden, von
zertrümmerter Hirnmasse begrenzten Kanal, der an der
linken Hirnhälfte, ohne die weichen Häute verletzt zu
haben, endet. Von der rechten Hälfte des Kanals gehl
ein, die Hemisphäre schräg nach unten, hinten und
innen durchsetzender knapp 3 cm langer und hier blind
endender Ausläufer ab, der etwas glattwandiger ist und
frisches Blut enthält. Der Hauptkanal hat die Vorder-
hörner beider Seitenventrikel eröffnet und das Septum
pellucidum durchtrennt. Das Lumen beider Seiten-
ventrikel bis in die llinterhörner hinein ist mit frischen
dunkelroten Blutserinnsein erfüllt. Die den Hauptkanal
nach vorn begrenzende weihe Hirnsubstanz ist durch
feinste punktförmige Extravasate rot gesprenkelt.
Das Präparal stammt von einem 45jährigen Manne,
der sich -1 Tage vor dem Exitus letalis eine Etevolverkugel
in die rechte Schläfe geschossen hat: kam in liefst or Be-
nommenheit mit erloschenen Reflexen, stertoröser At-
mung und regelmäßigem, aber verlangsamtem Pulse auf.
An der rechten Schläfe eine blutende, mit schmierigen
Massen bedeckte Schußwunde, am welche sich ein hand-
tellergroßer Bluterguß unter der Haut gebildet hat. An
der entsprechenden linken Schläfenseite gleichfalls ein
Bluterguß unter die hier intakte Haut Pupillen stau,
rechte weiter wie linke. l'alieni stirbt unter hoch-
gradigster Zyanose.

Grun-shol wound in the Brain.
The illustration represents the cut surface of the
upper half of the brain, which has been cut through
horizontally. In it one sees a channel edged by shat-
tered brain - tissue traversing the frontal portion
of the brain in an oblitpie direction from right to left.
The channel ends in the left side of the brain without
injuring the pia mater. From the right half of this
channel a branch exactly 3 cm long runs obliquely
downwards, backwards, and inwards through the
hemisphere. It ends blindly; has comparatively smooth
edges; and is filled with fresh blood. The main channel
has opened the anterior cornua of both lateral ventricles,
and cut through the septum lucidum. The cavity
of each lateral ventricle back to the posterior comu
is filled with recent dark red blood-clot. The white
matter bounding the main channel in front is dotted
red by extremely fine punctiform extravasations.
The specimen was obtained from a man. aged 45,
who two days before his death had shot biniseli writh
a revolver through the right temple. He was brought
in in the deepest stupor, with lost reflexes, stertorous
breathing, and a regular but slowed pulse. There was
a bleeding shot-wound in the light temple. It was
covered with greasy masses, and around it there was
subcutaneous haemorrhage over an area the size of
the palm of the hand. There was a subcutaneous
haemorrhage in the corresponding place on the left
temple also, but here the skin was intact. The pupils
were fixed; the right was wider than the left. The
patient died in an extremely cyanosed condition.
