retire for change of air from Cairo ; some of them are large,
particularly that -which Colonel Misset inhabited : it had a
garden attached to it; but, considering the excessive cheap-
ness of provisions, the rent was higher in proportion than in
Europe.
The town of Boolac, called the port of Cairo, from being
situated on the river, is the place where all the boats that
trade with Cairo are moored, and is distant from it about a
mile and a half: it contains the naval arsenal and dock-yard
of the Pasha, the custom-house, and government warehouses.
