ROOM OF REGIONAL MEMENTOES, 39 M. Fornaiskiej
Street. This was the first memorial room to be established
in Lower Silesia, on the initiative of local civic and cultural
leaders. It has interesting documents coming from the first
settlers in the Western Territories, especially those re-
emigrating from France, documents attesting to the Polish
character of Silesia, archaeological exhibits, specimens of the
mineral resources of the region of Walbrzych, interior
furnishings of the homes of miners and weavers from the
18th century.

Open daily except Mondays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sundays
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Established in 1909, it possessed a valuable collection of
local ceramics (Boleslawiec earthenware). The museum, de-
vastated during the war, was reestablished in 1953. The col-
lection, which is of a regional character, is based on cera-
mics including the special local earthenware of the 17 th—
19th centuries.
BOLKOW (Wroclaw Voivodship, Jawor County)
CASTLE-MUSEUM, branch of the Silesian Museum in Wroc-
law. Open daily except Mondays and days following holi-
days from 9 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sundays and holidays from
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum lodged in a castle built in the
14th century by Bolko I of Swidnica, with an 18th-century
outbuilding, was established in 1900, and represented a store
of relics from various epochs. Since 1952, it has been a braach
of the Silesian Museum.
The exhibition emphasizes the role of the Swidnica and
Jawor Piasts in the fortifying of frontiers; it also illustrates
the history and monuments of the town of Bolkow. One of
the rooms is devoted to the subject of hunting in Lower
Silesia.
B&BRKA (Rzeszow Voivodship, Krosno County)
OPEN-AIR MUSEUM situated on the spot of the eariiest
prospecting for oil undertaken by Ignacy Lukasiewicz in
1854: models and full-size reconstructions of devices used in
the extraction of oil in the past.

The museum in Brzeg was estabiished in 1910. Untii 1930 it was
iodged in the House oi Handicrafts, 42 Piastowska Street, and after-
wards was moved to the castle of the princes of Brzeg. The
Renaissance castle (with Gothic survivais) was built in 1541—60 by
Giacomo and Francesco Parr; the gate building (1551—53), is richly
