The Museum, organized on the initiative of the Society of
Friends of the Mlawa Region, was inaugurated in 1963. It is
a regional institution. The archaeological section includes
a collection of stone hatchets, a granite pagan idol from the
8th—9th centuries, an llth-century sword, etc.; the ethno-
graphic section — pestles, birchen bast shoes, holy figures,
etc.; the historical section — documents of the past, memo-
rials of soldiers who died in the campaign of September 1939,
etc.; the art section — paintings by the regional artist W.
Piechowski and others.

PARISH MUSEUM, branch of the Diocesan Museum in Tar-
now, is located in the presbytery where exhibits of the folk
art of the immediate vicinity have been assembled.
MOGILNO (Bydgoszcz Voivodship)
MEMORIAL ROOM in the Vocational Secondary School of
Economics, 9 Bojownikow PPR Street, tel. 742. Inaugurated
in 1961, it assembles archaeological exhibits and historical
mementoes relating to the history of the town and county
of Mogilno.

THE JOHANN GOTTFRIED HERDER MUSEUM, Town Hall.

The Museum was opened in 1960 in the rooms of the Town
Hall, built in the first half of the 15th century, later rebuilt
several times. Destroyed by fire, it was rebuilt in 1945. Still
preserved are parts of Gothic walls on the ground floor
where the Museum occupies three halls.
The exhibition contains furniture, arms, coins, craftsmanship
products, first editions of the works of the German philolo-
gist, pedagogue and author, Johann Gottfried Herder (1744—
—1803) — 28 volumes of the second Vienna edition of 1801,
etc. The exhibition comprises the history of the town and
district of Morgg, and the life and work of Herder — with
special emphasis on the period of his youth spent in Morgg,
Riga and Koenigsberg.
