History of Technology and the protection of relics
of old technology (this work is being done in cooperation
with the Ministry of Culture and Art);
Technological Progress; this is done, mainly by
means of temporary exhibitions, in order to popularize in
industry the adequately tested technological novelties (in
direct cooperation with the various industrial ministries);
Popularization; this is done with the help of educa-
tional exhibits serving to bring technology closer to the
young, and through "technology classes" for schools, held
in the Museum exhibition halls. These programmes are
based on cooperation with the school system.
The broad activities of Museum aimed at the protection of
unique relics of Polish engineering, as well as the popula-
rization of this problem, have contributed to the recon-
struction of several historical objects which now function
as field branches of the Museum of Technology.
The permanent collections of the Museum comprise the
following sections: mining, metallurgy, transportation, astro-
nautics, forestry, timber industry, agriculture, food industry,
the fundamentals of physics, radio engineering, telecommu-
nications, electrical engineering, energetics, geodesy, and
industrial chemistry.
The Museum runs experimental workrooms, a club and an
educational short-wave radio stadion (S P5 MT), a cabinet
for radio-bearings, and and advisory bureau for the techno-
logical professions.
In the stage of organization are sections of: the scientific
bases of technology, industrial chemistry, the construction
of heavy machinery, film technology, automation, as well
as a radio and TV studio.
The Museum has the following branches: the Museum of
Ancient Metallurgy at Slupia Nowa; the Museum of the
Old-Polish Basin at Sielpia Wielka; the Old Forge at
Kuznica Stara; the Old Industrial Factory at Bobrza; the
Old Hammer Mill at Oliwa near Gdansk.
In cooperation with the school system, the Museum of
Technology initiates the organization of school museums
and out of five that have been planned, two are already
functioning.
