Zugrunde liegt das Handbuch ,,Studien- und Berufswahl", hrsg. von der Bund-Länder-Kommis-
sion für Bildungsplanung und Forschungsförderung und der Bundesanstalt für Arbeit, Bad Hon-
nef (K. H. Bock-Verlag) 1988/89, S. 28. Die dort gemachten Angaben haben sich in nicht weni-
gen Fällen als korrekturbedürftig erwiesen. Insbesondere hat sich gezeigt, daß das Große Lati-
num als Studienvoraussetzung noch eine große Rolle spielt, so daß es nicht ignoriert werden darf
(in der Ausgabe 1986/87 war es noch mit einem eigenen Symbol vertreten, cf. Abdruck im
MDAV 2/87, S. 47). Als Symbol ist hier in der korrigierten Fassung ein eingekreistes Quadrat ge-
wählt. Im übrigen hat sich die Kommission bemüht, den handlichen Übersichtscharakter zu wah-
ren und den komplizierten Anmerkungsteil nicht noch mehr anschwellen zu lassen — wie es nö-
tig gewesen wäre, wenn alle Details hätten erfaßt werden sollen. Der Benutzer kann nicht nach-
drücklich genug auf den 1. und 2. Satz unter dem Anmerkungsteil hingewiesen werden.
Für weitere Verbesserungen und Präzisierungen von seiten der Leser dieser Fassung sind die
Kommissionsmitglieder dankbar (bitte an den Verbandsvorsitzenden richten).

Internationa! summer schoo! for teachers of dassics
St Andrews, Scottand, 6-10 August 1990
Düring the past thirty years the University of St Andrews in Scotland has been holding summer
schools für those who teach the classical subjects in schools. At first these were directed exclusi-
vely to a British audience and British needs, but latterly they have been opened to an internatio-
nal audience. The next such Conference will be held between August 6 and 10, 1990, and a
warm invitation is extended to all teachers of classics who read this advertisement. There will be
twenty lectures or discussions on some of the most important aspects and authors of the ancient
world, with particular emphasis on the classical periods of Greek and Roman literature and histo-
ry. Speakers include Sir Kenneth Dover (,Was Herodotus a historian?'), Professor H M Hine (,The
Reception of Greek Learning at Rome'), and Professor G E Rickman (,Mare Nostrum'). (The titles
are still provisionat). All the lectures will be given by members of the University staff. Lectures will
take place in the mornings; the afternoons will be free; there will be various entertainments in the
evenings.
St Andrews is the oldest of Scotland's eight universities, dating back to the early fifteenth Century.
The town of St Andrews - still a compact, small town surrounding its medieva! castle and cathe-
dra) - is situated on the East coast of Scotland, about fifty miles north of Edinburgh, and is easily
reached by air or rail from London. )t enjoys a better climate than many (since the days of
Tacitus!) have realised. History and geography have furnished it with many attractions, and it is
also a good base for visiting both the cities and the mountains of Scotland. Guests will be accom-
modated in John Burnet Hall, a comfortable Student residence named after the distinguished
scholar of Greek philosophy, John Burnet; this is dose to the University buildings and also very
near to the most famous golf course in Scotland.
The Conference will begin on the evening of Monday, August 6, and end on Friday, August 10.
